Exploring the Old Dale Road and Brooklyn Mine Road Gold Mines. With dreams of walking in the footsteps of gold miners we set off to explore Joshua Tree National Park and the adjacent Bureau of Land Management lands for some of these sites in the "Old Dale Mining District".

Mining began in California in the 1800s when the government encouraged westward expansion to survey the land for valuable resources. Ranchers, cowboys and pioneers settling into southern California discovered gold in the hills east of Los Angeles. This was 1842, six years before the famous California gold rush of 1848.
